Year 1 and 2 Educational Visit to The Red House, Aldeburgh

In order to support and enhance our music curriculum, we are organising an educational visit to The Red House in Aldeburgh for the children in Year 1 and Year 2.

The Red House was the home to the composer Benjamin Britten.  It now offers a unique resource for schools, and has won awards for its work with families, children and young people. The Red House offers a range of musical experiences and we have selected ‘Create an Opera in a Day’. This exciting programme is led by the staff at the centre. Children take on the role of musicians, designers, authors and performers as they learn about Benjamin Britten and one of his best loved operas, Noye’s Fludde (pronounced Noah’s Flood). By exploring how Britten was inspired to write this work, children will have the chance to find their own inspiration through the collections, house and gardens. Don’t forget, there are also costumes to design and instruments to create!  The children’s storytelling and performance culminates with the final show!

The centre can only accommodate 30 children on any one day and therefore we will be going over four different days. They are as follows:

12th March 2020 - Nightingales

17th March 2020 - Kingfishers

18th March 2020 - Skylarks

19th March 2020 - Woodpeckers

To cover the cost of the day, we would appreciate a voluntary contribution of  £12.25 which covers the cost of the activities at the centre and the coach travel.  The children should wear school uniform and will need a packed lunch. If you would like the school to provide the packed lunch, please indicate on the form below.  We would appreciate the offer of adult help as the children will be working in small groups when at the centre. If you are able to help, please indicate on the form below.

Please be aware that, as the session in Aldeburgh does not finish until 2.30, it is likely that the arrival time back at school will be around 3.30. Staff in charge on the day will contact the school office if for any reason it looks like it may be even later than this. You will then be contacted via parent mail to update you with an expected arrival time.

Please complete the form below and return to school as soon as possible. In order for us to confirm this visit can go ahead, we would appreciate all donations in by Friday 7th February 2020.

We are really looking forward to this visit. If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s teacher.

Many thanks,

Year 1 and Year 2 teachers.
